Bone Agressive Puppy?
I have a 4 month old golden retriever who is typically well mannered loves people and other dogs. He has been giving raw hides before and doesn’t have a problem when we take them away, however we gave him a jerky stuffed omega 3 smoked beef shank and he went nuts. I tried to take it away to test and teach him not to be aggressive and he growled very aggresively. This is the only thing he is aggressive towards and then acted the same way towards my bf as he put his hand towards it. I decided to take it away from him for good, but am confused why he never acted this way before with any other type of bone he gets. He was at the vet today and received a distemper shot and a rabies shot and i’m not sure if this has anything to do with the behavior. please help.
couple of suggestions. Never play tug o war with a toy and your dog. This encourages aggressive behavior. Train him to take treats nicely by putting it close to him and telling him no and pulling the treat away before he takes it. When takes it gently let him have it. However, once you give it to him, it is his. don’t take it away after he has possession. Not until he if fully trained. This need to be your rule. If he has something you did not give him like one of your shoes, tell him no in a loud voice and take it.
