Why is acetylene used in welding torches instead of ethane?
They both have two carbon atoms.
acetalyne is cheaper when refilling although i hav nvr heard of anyone using ethane anymore acetalyne replaced argon although argon is still used in certain cases acetalyne is used for filler wire welds and flam cutting. i am a sophmore in a vocational school this is where i get it from.
my teacher mr. petrino said he took out ethane because acetalyne is cleaner burning although propane is better than both its not enough fuel for welding and cutting its more for soldering a copper pipe in the basement.
